Baby Car Seats - Which Type is Best?
Make travelling in a vehicle safer for your little
one by selecting a carseat that is suited to your childs height and weight, but
dont forget how quickly infants grow. There should also be adequate head
support for the newborn. You can even get baby car seats that fit into a stroller frame (known as travel systems), or ones
that double as a carrier for newborns. Choose from:
Infant Carseats:
These are best for newborn babies and should be used
until the babys head reaches within an inch of the top of the seat or
their weight reaches 20 to 22 lbs whichever comes first. They should be easy to
insert and remove and should also be easy to get your newborn in and out of.
For safety sake, very young children should be placed in the back
seat facing the rear until they reach about 20 to 25 lbs or around 12 months of
age. At this time they can be moved to the infant/toddler model.
Infant/Toddler Car-Seat:
These easily convert from rear facing to front
facing for toddlers. Some models come in two pieces for convenience, the seat
itself snaps in and out while the base remains in the vehicle.
Convertibles:
These fit kids from birth to about 40 lbs. They
start off facing to the rear of the vehicle till babys reach at least 20 lbs,
and then can be made to face forward.
Boosters:
Once toddlers reach 40 lbs its time for a
booster seat. Make sure the shoulder belt on the automobile falls across the
shoulder and not the neck. These are used until the child is at least 8 years
old.
Toys and Accessories To Make Everyone Happy
You can make the ride more enjoyable for all
occupants by supplying youngsters with toys and games to occupy their time,
while saving the driver from distractions which might take their mind off the
road.
